Stitching a Sustainable Future for Quezon City!

It was an honor to attend the 2026 National Textile Convention (TELACon) at the PICC, where Mayor Joy Belmonte delivered a powerful keynote speech on our city’s commitment to a circular economy. Following her address, I joined co-authors Councilor Aly Medalla and Councilor Vito Sotto Generoso in a panel discussion to share the salient points of our Textile Sustainability and Circularity Ordinance of Quezon City.

Through this landmark legislation, we are moving QC beyond the "take, make, and dispose" model. We are institutionalizing the QC Textile Hub for innovation and research, establishing collection points in every district to keep fabrics out of landfills, and prioritizing green procurement of local tropical fabrics for city uniforms. We are also providing incentives and tax discounts for small businesses and residents who lead the way in upcycling.

Quezon City is proving that environmental protection and economic growth go hand-in-hand. We are no longer just managing waste ... we are actively designing it out of our city. By turning every scrap into a resource, we aren't just cleaning our streets, we are stitching a resilient, proactive, and sustainable future for every QCitizen!
